What to Expect

A Couple Intensive is for any couple who is engaged, married or are seriously considering marriage. If you are both committed to making the relationship work, an intensive can provide the time and space to get to the heart of deep rooted issues, rebuild and restore intimacy, and/or build a solid foundation for a lifetime of love. Instead of a 1-hour session per week, the intensive centers on specific needs into 1-3 days of focused growth, rebuilding and restoration.

Each intensive is designed and unique to each couple and situation. To achieve this goal, there is an extensive intake and assessment phase for all couples so they can receive the most from their intensive.

Goals of an Intensive

The overall goal of a couple intensive is to:

  • Build or rebuild intimacy, trust and commitment through emotional connection, attunement and attachment, developing a deep-rooted friendship for lasting love;
  • Learn to manage conflict well by learning to discuss and dialogue on gridlocked issues, resolve solvable problems, accept influence and learn how to self-soothe to protect from internal and external stress; and
  • Create a shared meaning together that honors each partner’s goals and dreams.

All underlying issues that couples experience and commonly want to work on can be categorized by the goals above. Within this structure, the intensive will be tailored to meet your particular needs as a couple with Biblical truths integrated into the therapeutic process.

Location of Intensive

Two Office Locations: Northeast and South Side (Greenwood) Indianapolis. These two locations provide a safe haven for you and your partner to temporarily get away from the chaos and mundane of home to have a relaxing atmosphere to truly focus of your relationship. I recommend that couples check into a hotel for at least 1 night during the intensive. This allows for unhindered time and focused attention to completely submerge into the mindset and effort of your intensive; complete take-home tasks undisturbed, and practice what you have been working on.

What’s the Process?

» Screening/Scheduling
Before you make the decision to begin a couple intensive, it is common to ask several questions to ensure that you will be receiving the best services and care for you and your partner. When you contact me, I offer a free phone or online consultation to answer any specific questions you may have and to get to know each other. This is a time that  you will have to determine if an intensive is right for you or if other services would be a better fit.

» First Meeting + Assessment
Congratulations! You are on your way to a healthier relationship. This meeting is intended to answer any further questions you may have and provide you with the assessments to complete prior to your intensive.

*Assessments will need to be completed and returned no later than 10 days prior to your intensive.* Sufficient time will need to given in order to review, score and interpret your assessments.

»Your Day or Weekend
On the morning of your couple intensive, we will begin with individual sessions and quickly move into the goals and structure of the weekend. From there, we begin working on your specific goals.

»After your Intensive + Evaluation
We will have a 50-minute session 4-6 weeks after your intensive. This check-in session is to determine how you have continued to progress toward your goals and to answer any questions you may have run into since completing your couple intensive.
